Wind of change In 2004, Perspective founded the A&D Trophy Awards to promote and honour the finest architecture and design in the Asia Pacific region. Fourteen years on, we continue to discover extraordinary works and projects created by the astounding talents of local and international designers. The 2018 awards promise to be particularly rewarding, with a healthy mixture of sizeable established practices as well as smaller independent and homegrown design studios. Familiar names and new faces include Steve Leung Designers, Aedas, Benoy, Neri&Hu, Ronald Lu & Partners, LAAB Architects, 10 Design, One Plus Partnership and A Work of Substance, all deserved winners and powerful pillars that help to drive the industries forward and propel newcomers togreater heights. While we acknowledge the current and next generations of designers, we also pay tribute to past generations. We are proud to have selected retired British architect Ronald J Phillips as the Pinnacle Award winner for his outstanding contribution to the architectural map of Hong Kong. His work for the Hong Kong Government, from 1956 to 1969, resulted in such landmark buildings as City Hall, the Star Ferry Pier and the Murray Building, which was magically transformed this year into a five-star hotel, The Murray. This year we have opted for a slight change by creating a new crystal plaque in place of the certificates we have traditionally presented to the winners of the Best of Category and Certificate of Excellence awards. Our highest honours, the Best of the Best trophies, have also been given a new look with refined colour and materials. We would like to thank everyone who participated in the competition this year and congratulate all our winners for their exceptional creations. Watch out for a bigger, better 2019 for Perspective.
