Returning as an official partner of Art Central Hong Kong, Swarovski presented the new Shades in Ascent installation by Steve Leung located at the fair entrance alongside Atelier Swarovski's latest home décor collections.
The Shades in Ascent installation by Steve Leung takes centre stage at the main entrance of the fifth edition of Art Central. The Hong Kong designer and creative is a veteran in architecture, interior and product design.
This is the first collaboration between Leung and Swarovski, marking the beginning of a new partnership
The installation draws its inspiration from the tranquil dimension of an ancient oriental village. The pieces reimagine the traditional floating lanterns in Chinese culture and art. The pieces bathe the space in light and colour generated by the 52,800 Swarovski crystal beads used by Leung in the lanterns. This is the first collaboration between Leung and Swarovski, marking the beginning of a new partnership and a prelude to a highly-anticipated lighting collection collaboration with Swarovski Crystal Palace. The collection will be launched in March 2020 and sold exclusively in China, with Domus Aurea as the exclusive distributor.
"It is a great pleasure to partner with Swarovski, especially launching my first art installation at Art Central in my home town of Hong Kong,” commented Leung. “We share the vision of celebrating the creativity and joy which design and art provide us. 'Shades in Ascent' captures the beauty of Chinese culture in an abundant expression of light and reflection. The immersive experience is an emotive modern art interpretation of the lighting collaboration which Swarovski and I are soon to embark on together. I look forward to sharing this cultural enchantment with people all over the world."
Art Central 2019 is located at Central Harbourfront Event Space, and is open to the public from March 27-31.
