The spotlight is on China for one of Asia's biggest lighting industry events, as specialists in search of the next big thing check out the latest products and releases at the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2019 edition
The Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2019 (GILE – organised by Messe Frankfurt), embraced the theme of 'Envisage the Next Move'. Organisers said the theme reflected the current state of the lighting industry which focuses on innovation and the quality of sustainable lighting.
Growing in size and attendance each year, GILE once again welcomed the world's lighting industry through its doors. Held concurrently with Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology, the shows together received 172,856 visitors from 133 countries and regions during the four-day affair.
The annual event has grown every year since it began 24 years ago. Located at the Canton Fairgrounds, GILE was held June 9-12 and 2,626 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions attended. While the fair features brands and products mostly from mainland China, a number of returning and new international vendors can still be found."This is the fifth year that Luminus is exhibiting at GILE and we are focusing on two main areas: specialty products for use in industrial, medical and entertainment sectors, and commercial products," said Decai Sun, chief executive officer, Luminus Devices. "China is a very big and important market for us and we meet a lot of customers at the show.”
By exhibiting we receive a lot of visibility and we are able to promote our brand and meet the right buyers
In addition to the various exhibition halls and vendors, the fair is a platform for key figures from the industry – some 50 speakers took to the stage to share their thoughts. Though most of the forums were not in English, headsets for translation were provided so everyone could participate."I was very impressed with the quality of the audience at the forum," said visitor Enrique Peiniger, founder and chief innovator, OVI."When I engaged with them I found that some were seasoned experts while others were budding lighting designers, which created a great variety of listeners and made for an intriguing experience. For lighting designers, we must combine both the technical and artistic worlds and merge them seamlessly together to have a holistic expression."
GILE acts not only as a standalone event, but also as part of Messe Frankfurt's Light + Building Technology fairs. These events are headed by the biennial Light + Building event, with the next edition taking place from March 8-13, 2020 in Frankfurt.
