Hong Kong-based designer and future judge at the upcoming A&D Trophy Awards, Andrea Ponti has created a new suitcase called Floatti for Ponti Design Studio

Inspired by the concept of travel as movement and transition, the suitcase combines form and function. By incorporating high-quality materials, such as polycarbonate, aluminium and leather, with innovative features, the Floatti suitcase makes any journey an experience.

The outer shell of coated polycarbonate with recessed aluminum inserts makes the product extremely durable and lightweight, while the genuine leather trims give it a vintage accent and a familiar feel. The Floatti is the world's first suitcase with one suspension for both pushing and pulling motions which ensures multidirectional rolling, great stability and smooth maneuverability even on the bumpiest surface.

It includes a handbag tray with recessed top surface and retractable strap that is designed to hold items securely in place even on the move. The addition of a smart handle gives immediate hassle-free access to phones: making calls, texting, launching maps, everything is possible just by tapping the Floatti retractable pull handle. An integrated scale is extremely useful for travellers with limited baggage allowance, and it displays the weight only when the suitcase is lifted by the handle. The onboard battery can fully charge an iPhone up to 7 times or a MacBook up to 1.5 times, and the detachable electronics compartment makes it possible to take all electronics through security in one effortless motion.

The project can currently be backed on Kickstarter.
