With a theme of 'comfort meets technology', the 2015 edition of ISH, the world's leading trade fair for sanitation, heating and air-conditioning products and services, broke records and showcased innovative technologies in the sector

The 2015 edition of ISH, the world's leading trade fair for the bathroom experience, building, energy, air-conditioning technology and renewable energies, took place in March at the Messe Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany, where an unprecedented attendance of exhibitors, as well as an increase in the number of visitors was achieved.

Several competitions were held during ISH 2015, celebrating outstanding design and technology. The Design Plus powered by ISH competition, the leading industry design competition that celebrates innovative concepts and outstanding bathroom, building, energy and air-conditioning designs, honoured 34 products that intelligently combined sustainability, functionality and style.

Another competition was the Innovation Award Architecture + Technology, which was presented to products and solutions that are outstanding both in terms of their design and their technology. The award served to underline the importance of architectural quality in sanitary and building systems technologies.

The ISH water section was characterised by sustainable sanitation solutions for individual user requirements arising from the process of demographic change, as well as by innovative water management and drinking-water hygiene. One of the highlights was the 'Pop Up My Bathroom' trend forum, organised by the Association of the German Sanitary Industry in cooperation with Messe Frankfurt. Here, four new bathroom and design scenarios aimed at different life phases were staged. This was complemented by the 'Pop Up My Bathroom Atelier' lecture forum, which focused on bathroom interiors, bathroom planning and design, and bathroom trends.

Another highlight in the water section was the 'Infotainment Cube' presented by VDMA Valves. Six high-performance projectors created perfect 3D animation so visitors were 'immersed' in a 'flooded' space, where they can learn about the practical use of sanitary and building fittings and how they contribute to the quality of drinking water, energy efficiency and safety in buildings.

Other notable events included the 'Stove Forum', which discussed the importance of wood-based fuels in today's energy and climate policy, while air-conditioning, cooling and ventilation technology was also represented in the energy section under the name of Aircontec.

ISH 2015 also marked the debut of the partner-country concept, with Poland being the first guest nation. Alongside a sharp increase in the number of Polish exhibitors, there were lectures such as 'Bathroom Design: Poland in the middle of change' by Zuzanna Skalska, owner of 360Inspiration, as well as a showcase of select design-led products curated by Urszula Kałużna, architect, founder and editor-in-chief of Exspace.

"We are delighted with the exceptional success of ISH 2015 and the excellent figures underscore the positive mood in the sector," says Wolfgang Marzin, president and CEO of Messe Frankfurt. "With growth in the number of international exhibitors and visitors, the fair has confirmed its leading international role."
