TROPHY
Project Living Pixels
Project leaders Chan Wan Ki, Kay; Chen Siu Wa, Shai Chai; Suen Ka Hei, Catherine
Taking recycled advertising banners as the project’s starting point, the designers created a unique three-dimensionality for the material by cutting it into small pieces and combining these to create volumes of light and texture.
The vintage stands were rescued from antique stores from Cat Street in Hong Kong, and kept in their untouched, original conditions. The designers created each lamp shade individually and specifically for each stand, selecting the banners, sorting out matching colours and sewing each patch by hand to build the perfect irregular shape.
As the banners are printed in one side only, the lamps appear to be white and pale when switched off, but the plain appearance radically changes once the lamps are switched on and the colours emerge from the inside.

Project 生 – Endless Lighting
The Endless Lighting concept comes from sei in Japanese culture. Nature is the source of all art and design in Japan, the muse of all Japanese artists and designers. The materials of art are rendered in forms that evoke their natural origins, and this inspiration is reflected in the use of treated wood veneer to create the structure of the light.

Project Easily Removed Electric Plug
The Easily Removed Electric Plug is similar to the common electric plug, but with a lever mechanism on it. The device allows user to easily remove the plug using just one hand, making it particularly useful for the elderly or people with disabilities. The one-piece outer case design does not trap dust and also provides a better sense of safety to the user. With a hidden lamp illustrating the power status, the plug demonstrates a combination of simplicity and functionality.

Project Green With Envy
A series of planters for domestic and office use designed for the HKWWA (Women’s Workers Association). The goal was to design a product the group could produce and sell to help benefit their organisation. Green With Envy is also an attempt to find a second life for the huge quantity of vinyl banners used for promotional means that go unrecycled every year. Each pot comes with a small mission statement and seeds to help start your first plant in the new planter.
