TROPHY Company Grohe
Project Grohe Digital Collection
Project team In-house This wireless controller has been created with a hybrid interface to aid the
transition from mechanical to digital. Simply turn the product on, twist the
outer ring to increase water flow and press the plus or minus button to
increase or decrease the temperature.
For enhanced safety and comfort, an LED ring gives instant visual feedback on the water temperature. The outer ring of the controller features Grohe ProGrip, a textured surface which emphasises the point of interaction and acts as a reassuring grip for wet hands. The simple aesthetic is based on a series of concentric circles, which frame the areas of interaction and guide the user intuitively. Grohe Digital comprises two compact wireless digital modules: the controller and the three-way diverter, which allows users to switch between a variety of draw-off points. For example in the shower; the head shower, hand shower or body sprays can be selected at the touch of a button. The wireless controller for the basin, bidet, bath and shower can be placed in any position and on any surface. For convenience and performance, energy-efficient electronics and product features result in a battery lifetime of three years. |

Green Or Sustainable
TROPHY Company Public Design Lab, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Project Green Bin
Project leader Professor Kin Wai Michael Siu
Project team Paul Lo Chi Hang, Ken Li, Poon Kei Engineering Many contemporary Asian cities - including Hong Kong - are increasingly
including sustainability and environmental protection as key policy issues.
Governments have thus introduced recycling bins, but most feature designs
which do not adapt well to urban needs, and also not environmentally friendly.
The Green Bin aims to overcome the deficiencies in sustainability of existing recycling bins. Made of stainless steel, the Green Bin has a longer product life compared with existing plastic bins. Its high-contrast colours and specially-designed form fit both functional and aesthetic needs, drawing people's attention and also suitable for the visually-impaired. The Green Bin offers flexibility for modification to meet regulations in different cities. It can easily be located in different public places such as shopping malls, lobbies of public or private estates, schools and so on. Constructed using minimum materials, the Green Bin is easy to produce and maintain, offering recycling options at the end of its lifespan and able to stand up to strong winds and rains. It is also cheaper to produce than the existing plastic bin design, as well as being far more stable. Ergonomically, it is a universal and inclusive design for different user groups, including wheelchair users and children. |

Lighting
TROPHY Company Optiled
Project CabLED
Project team In-house CabLED can be used indoors, outdoors and even underwater to create
brilliant lighting in areas that could never be illuminated before without
extensive retooling costs or complex installation procedures.
CabLED is a combination of cable and wire with patented technology (US Design Patent D635 930 S), and is the only linear LED lighting solution that not only provides a supremely flexible and versatile lighting strip, but also an easy-to-fit and cost-efficient installation process with an exceptional overall lighting performance that is both reliable and longlasting. It has an average life time of up to 35,000 hours - three times longer than conventional fluorescent tubes. CabLED uses a unique manufacturing process which can generate lighting sections up to 50m in length, rare in the market. It is also flexible, so it can be used to replace any T8 or T5 florescent tube for general lighting, cove and contour lighting, light box, cabinets or any situations where mounting a normal lighting fixture would be extremely difficult. CabLED is also a unique breakthrough in LED lighting in that the customer can cut and re-connect the CabLED themselves, using the wide variety of mounting options and accessories. |
