A stylish new seating arrangement marks the start of a design collaboration between B&B Italia and Piero Lissoni, now available at colourliving

A combination of both the practical and technological with the esoteric and aesthetic, Italian designer Piero Lissoni's new modular sofa range, SAKé, is a sleek, streamlined example of contemporary seating which is ideal for all homes.

Marking the beginning of Lissoni's collaboration with B&B Italia, SAKé is introduced into Hong Kong by luxury homeware specialist colourliving. Well-balanced and ultra-modern in style, SAKé has seen Lissoni assemble a selection of luxurious pieces which can be grouped together, or featured as standalone items.

"The design [for SAKé] comes from the search for lightness," he explains. "A technological platform, magically suspended in the air like a flying carpet, with cushions added to enclose the borders, and finally, legs to ground it."

The SAKé range is offered in a range of sizes – 175cm, 210cm, and 270cm – for convenience. It also features a stylish chaise longue and a sofabed, the first to be featured in the B&B Italia collection. The sofas feature quilted details, with armrests and backs available in a range of fabrics and leathers in a rainbow of colours, making the SAKé endlessly customisable to suit different tastes and spaces.

The unique sofabed, measuring 150 cm x 210cm, comes in matching seating and back elements, with an interchangeable right or left armrest that also doubles up as a headboard when, by moving the seat and turning down the back, the sofa transforms into a single bed.

Lissoni's concept for SAKé is distinguished by a careful search for formal balance, in which he has introduced a design 'lightness' to the details of the cushions and support base. With their refined modular stitching, the seat cushions measure 35cm or 45cm; while profiled bands outline the back cushions, also available in two sizes. The elegant support base, meanwhile, comprises a crosspiece with slim, rounded steel legs.

"For me, SAKé is a platform on which to float in peace. But it is also a sofa," Lissoni concludes.
