It takes a Herculean effort and months of hard work to put together an awards show, not to mention two. This past November, Perspective had a number of 'firsts' in its 18-year history. With a dedicated team and a good measure of blind faith, we organised the first-ever A&D China Awards in Shenzhen (with less than a year of preparation) and hosted the A&D Trophy Awards – back to back within one week. This could not have been achieved without the dedication and contribution of every member of our team. I cannot thank them enough, and could not be more proud of ourselves for making the impossible possible. It may be a little egotistical to say the two award presentations were an unprecedented success, but judging from the overwhelmingly positive feedback and praise we received from winners and guests alike, they indeed were. Both exceeded our expectations, and were crowned with record submissions and attendance. The biggest compliment came from architect Christian Low of SB Architects, who said, "Perspective is popular, maybe more popular than you know you are." Approval such as this will drive us to strive for even greater award presentations in the future. Look out for a report on both awards in our January/February 2019 combination issue. Speaking of the impossible, we have witnessed some infrastructural wonders in – and out of – Hong Kong in the last two months: the Express Rail Link and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. In this issue, we take a closer look at the West Kowloon Station along with the longest sea-crossing bridge on Earth, both of which represent major improvements to the connections between Hong Kong and mainland China. But a note of caution is required: some regard these schemes as white elephants. Only time will tell. And on our cover this month we have renowned architectural designer Barrie Ho, who is unveiling his game plan for the next 20 years. December is all about celebration. At the festive season gets underway, we asked a few designers for some fabulous Christmas gift ideas which, we hope, will inspire and entertain you. It remains for me to wish you a joyous holiday and many happy returns.
