Award-winning South African design firm, Inhouse, gives Allport Cargo Services an office maritime makeover reflective of its brand

Design firm Inhouse were charged with the task of redesigning the Cape Town offices for supply chain management firm, Allport Cargo Services South Africa. Taking on the brief, the company requested a solution that would reflect the identity and purpose of the brand. Inhouse took this concept and used elements of the shipping industry and maritime world to create a space perfect for the company’s brand.

Allport Cargo Services South Africa occupies two spaces on the 2nd and 7th floors of its Loop Street location in Cape Town. The challenge by the Inhouse team was to integrate the spaces and their aesthetics seamlessly despite distance between the floors. To connect the spaces, a cohesive colour scheme of blue, white and black has been used throughout. Not only a nod to the nautical theme, but also a direct correlation to the Allport corporate colours.

The materials selected throughout are also consistent. Some of these materials include timber, exposed brickwork, tiled feature areas and the recurring use of ‘porthole’ mirrors and maps on display. Small quirks of the design overhaul include a private telephone room, which has been wallpapered with a bold graphic print depicting the sides of shipping containers and representing the freighting industry.

Floor-to-ceiling timber installations that mimic the design of a ship, have been used on both floors. While mostly white walls dominate the spaces, they have been softened with the use of exposed brick, polished parquet flooring and various colours of tiling.
