CROX Designs Shen Living Library in Shanghai

CROX completes Shen Living Museum flagship store in Shanghai

The comprehensive store incorporates 11 different experience spaces including a bookstore, a cafe, a leather workshop, a florist and a handcraft classroom. Situated in the Zendai Himalayas Art Center designed by Arata Isozaki, the design for the project was led by Taiwan-based architect C R Lin.

Working within the twisted organic forms that make up the building in which the space is housed, Lin opted for a design concept based on the theme of a “warm current”, adding a soft and leisurely dimension to the large-scale exterior.  Wood has been used for partitioning walls and bookcases that divide the space, contrasting the plain concrete of the structure and injecting an element of warmth.

Intelligent placement of the cafe, means that the aroma of coffee can be smelt when visitors peruse the cooking section of the bookstore. The cafe also forms a half-outdoor rest door, allowing people to rest and read at leisure. The raised main area of the bookstore and cafe form a circular theatre, providing the perfect stage for in-store activities.

Located in the centre of the store, an open kitchen and food classroom are set up for adults and children to come together in a light-hearted atmosphere. The firm hopes to express a new sense of Shanghai style with the project.
