In this comprehensive architectural remodeling and interior design, our goal has been to create an exciting yet comfortable home, where space and the different functions, flow seamlessly and connect, wherever possible, with the view and outdoor space. The owner is an avid collector of contemporary art, so an added angle has been to create a backdrop that both complements his art and stands as a design statement in itself. This has been achieved by carefully planning the layout, organising the introduction of natural light and limiting our palette of finishes and details. The result is interiors that harmonise and, in turn, allow the artwork to resonate. An added benefit of limiting materials is an enhancement to the feeling of space and heightened continuity throughout the house. Special features include the living, dining and kitchen space that is read as one and split in level. This creates a very interesting volume, further complemented by oversized sliding doors, opening up the external wall, permitting natural and unhindered progression to a timber decked terrace. The stairway, rising through the main four levels, conceived as clean and utilitarian, provides the perfect setting for interesting sculpture. At the top of the stair, the entire roof area has been given over to outdoor living. The heart of this composition is a comprehensive BBQ kitchen and shaded dining area.
