This project was a comprehensive renovation which benefited from the client having lived in the property for many years prior to our intervention. The lessons they had learnt from this experience enabled them to clearly define the main elements they wanted to enhance and, of more importance, the myriad of shortcomings which frustrated the potential of the home. Our inspiration came from a desire to open up the home and making the overall experience more connected with interesting but harmonious transitions between functions and space. The entrance experience has been transformed with an oversized door and window wall looking on to an open car port. The first major accommodation is on the first floor, therefore the access stair has been opened up with points of interest added manifesting in an open study and an artwork recess. The first floor has always been the main living space which we have transformed from being a series of enclosed rooms to a free flowing entertainment space. Beginning with a breakfast garden we transit to the open kitchen with large central bench which has adopted the mantle of the homes heart. This is where the family congregates and makes meal preparation a social affair. Next, the dining area is a simple, comfortable transition which cascades into the larger volume of the main living space which in turn terminates in a full width balcony and the view beyond. ...Collapse
