A fast expanding Chinese hotpot restaurant – “New Star”, relocated its 5,000 ft² headquarter from suburbs area to city’s busy district of Hong Kong island situated next to a shopping mall in North Point. Due to the lack of identity and public awareness of the restaurant, the renovation played an important role to enhance the corporate image of company to the public within a low headroom & 2 storey building.
Rather than produce a stereotype workspace, the design team got inspiration from the manipulation when drawing of a 5-pointed star company logo to design an element which connects different workspaces in a unified & 3-dimensional way. Expanding, energetic & dynamics atmosphere were simulated from the parallel between company’s expanding goal coupled with non-stop movement of the logo.

The element, was composed of 440m wooden stripes starting from the reception area’s ceiling and falling on floor to form a partition wall at staff area. Meanwhile, it was transformed to 180m vinyl running quickly to the manager room and extending up to ceiling and penetrating to the conference room eventually. People could experience the uniqueness of the space easily by subtle & neutral backdrop. Open plan, ceiling, enlarged window and glass partition as well as ground floor exhibition hall had been adopted to enhance the spatial interaction from the internal staff, visitor and the public on the street. ...Collapse
