A young couple commissioned the design team to renovate a new suburb house in Clearwater Bay, Hong Kong. The house is a 3 storey rectangular box which covers 3,300 ft² floor areas and has a sea view to Silverstrand. Due to the improper location of service valves, wall partition and the architectural features, the space was confined and the sea view was demolished. All unnecessary structures, building services equipments were relocated and all the space was changed to enhance the spatial openness. With a two feet width column replaced by a slim metal mail box at main entrance façade, an enlarged house entrance opening & staircase wall removal , sequence of spaces were connected creates a spectacular scene viewing from the main entrance to garden. A/C hood and flower box at each level were also be removed to recover the sea view and to rise up the headroom space especially to the family room which have 6 feet headroom space before . ...Collapse

Nature has become a dominant feature for the space accented by minimal spatial treatment. Natural light has been used to form 2 lighting voids against cleaned, solid staircase at house entrance. The sea view has also been framed by subtle, concealed wall finishes (i.e. white plastered wall, grey sandstone flooring) articulated around surrounding environment rather than to white-washed every surface to interpret minimalism, to create ambiguity between the indoor and outdoor.
