Alchemist Creations

Kat Ling, Kenneth Ho and Samuel Siu set up Alchemist Creations in 2012. With the motto 『Turn neglect into shine', their brainchild — the Can-Watch series — was created from the bottom of an ordinary soda can and equipped with a genuine leather band made from leather remnant sourced from handbag factories. This home-grown brand has led to the setting up of a production line which creates job opportunities for workers at sheltered workshops in Hong Kong. Alchemist Creations places importance on the design system, designing and arranging an appropriate manufacturing process with members and tutors from workshops. Through the resulting products, they hope customers will appreciate the sophisticated workmanship of the craftsmen. The Can-Watch series combines the maxim of sustainability with a social mission, turning waste material into fashion accessories. The series recently won Germany's Red Dot Design Award, Best of the Best 2013 in the watch and jewellery category.

Kevin Cheung Design

Kevin Cheung is a product designer based in Hong Kong, who graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic Univer s i ty's School of Design in 2009. He believes that in today's world of environmental crisis, designers have the responsibility to re-create the world for the better. Designs have to be sustainable by enriching the environment, users as well as society. Instead of continually draining new resources / materials to create new products, Cheung experiments with waste materials, reusing them to create new products and collaborating with different NGOs to produce products locally. Some of his well-known product designs include Boombottle, made with waste produced in Hong Kong and then assembled at the St James' Shelter workshop in Wanchai, providing job opportunities for people with disabilities. It is not only a locally-made product but also a one that can bring benefits to the society throughout the whole production process.
