    To transform a 30-year-old office building in the urban Wanchai district, completely refitting the interiors and altering the façade. The concepts of ‘rough’ and ‘smooth’ influenced the design both figuratively and literally, with many of the materials, shapes, textures and principles used relating to either concept. Hexagon-shaped Tri-tonal tiles cover the exterior and, depending on the viewing angle, light and weather conditions appear differently, giving the hotel a constantly changing face. From the façade the purple Tri-tonal tiles (this time a variety of three and four-sided shapes) wrap down into the cave-like entrance foyer where a curved, rough stone roof, speckled with hanging rectangular lights, meets a large polished marble seat, reiterating the rough/smooth dynamic. ...Collapse
