The concepts of ‘rough’ and ‘smooth’ influenced the design both figuratively and literally, with many of the materials, shapes, textures and principles used relating to either concept.
Hexagon-shaped Tri-tonal tiles cover the exterior and, depending on the viewing angle, light and weather conditions appear differently, giving the hotel a constantly changing face. From the façade the purple Tri-tonal tiles (this time a variety of three and four-sided shapes) wrap down into the cave-like entrance foyer where a curved, rough stone roof, speckled with hanging rectangular lights, meets a large polished marble seat, reiterating the rough/smooth dynamic. ...Collapse
