Tokyo-based firm UDS will be exhibiting a selection of their latest projects at Good Design Store in July

Having been established in 1997 and now with branches throughout Asia, UDS have become known as an energetic and innovative player in the fields of hotel and commercial spaces design.  They were the folks behind Japan’s first design hotel, CLASKA, in 2002 and have recently been continuing to make waves with their attractive, award-winning builds. As a result, they will be holding an exhibit of their designs at Good Design Store in Hong Kong.

The show will feature works from a range of their projects such as The Shinjuku Granbell Hotel located in the heart of Tokyo. For this design they worked with a large group of Japanese and Asian artists to line the walls and fill the spaces with contemporary, regional pieces.

Also featuring will be their latest work, Hotel Edit in Yokohama which consists of both condominiums and accommodation. The ground floor combines a restaurant, a lifestyle shop, a library and conference room, yet the firm opted for no partitions between each area, creating a seamless space through which people can engage. The blue theme throughout reflects the city’s proximity to the coastline.

They have also recently completed Grids Hostel + Lounge Akihabara, where they converted an old office building into sleek, yet affordable accommodation. They wanted to transmit qualities such as delicacy and textures into the space and couple them with elements of traditional Japan. Bunk beds are designed to replicate sleeper trains and the bar lounge houses lanterns and neon lights.
