Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors recognises industry's best at the Building Surveyor Awards
The Building Surveyor Awards 2017 Presentation Ceremony and Gala Dinner — held on June 8 at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong — was attended by more than 200 guests and judges. Those gathered included Ir Hon Chi-keung, JP, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Development Bureau, HKSAR Government, as Guest of Honour; Sr Thomas Ho Kwok-kwan, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS); Sr Daniel Chang Wai-ip, Chairman of the HKIS Building Surveying Division (BSD); and Sr Robin Leung Chi-tim, Chairman of the Organising Committee of BSA 2017 and past Chairman of the HKIS BSD. Those gathered witnessed the presentation of 23 awards in recognition of excellence in building surveying.
The event, organised by the institute's building surveying arm, is aimed at encouraging members to actively observe and tackle issues affecting the city's structures.
The competition was open for entries from October 2016 to February 2017, and accepted nominations submitted by clients, consultants and surveyors in three categories: New Development, A&A and Conversion, and Maintenance and Rehabilitation.
The jury was drawn from both academia and industry, and judged 19 finalist projects. Various awards, including a Grand Award, were given in six categories: Expertise , Design, Project Management, Sustainability, Value Management and Innovative Ideas and Approach, the latter being given in recognition of pre-eminent building projects, gauged in terms of sustainability, economic and social values, ideas, and technology and/or innovation.
