Alexander Wong Architects has designed an innovative Cineplex, BEYOND FUTURE, for China Film Cinema located in the heart of Wuhan, China

Wuhan is one of the most dynamic cities in China, and it plays a vital role in the Science and Technology sector. Owing to that perception, the newly established cineplex at The Wuhan Jingkai AEON Mall is designed by Alexander Wong Architects with a futuristic concept of travelling beyond space and time like never before.

Inspired by the dynamic philosophies of Russian Constructivism and concepts from Einstein's Theory of Relativity, the theme of BEYOND FUTURE was born. Walls, floors, ceilings and furniture all float freely, imitating no gravitational pull because objects switch dimensions in a gravity-free space, which appear to be abstract in our human brains.

The cineplex allows guests to get involved and be exposed to the experience of being beyond space and time, where tunnel-like corridors bring them to another side of human consciousness (theatres) where there is no future, past or present.

Of the design, the firm says: "BEYOND FUTURE is a major turning point with respect to the design directions in our office. Here, doing less may be doing more and we attempt to realise profound concepts into Spatial Reality by means of implications and not blatantly stating the obvious or even the subtleties. After all, either on a conscious or subconscious level, it is the viewer's free will to experience the space and connect the dots to fully understand the true narrative of BEYOND FUTURE.”
