Manfred Yuen

A chartered architect in the UK since 2006, Manfred Yuen has worked for companies such as Pentagram Design, Kohn Pedersen Fox, Coop-Himmelb(l)au and Gravity Partnership. He ran a second year design studio at Kingston University, London, from 2007-2008, when he also set up YS Groundwork Architecture + Urbanism with Stephen Suen. The firm’s works were exhibited in the London Biennale 2008 and Hong Kong Biennale 2010. He has lectured and served as guest critic at various design schools in the UK and Hong Kong and is the founding member of the charity group Blue Eyes Entity (BEEs), which provides voluntary house improvement works and free design consultations for Tung Wah Groups of Hospitals’ affiliated elderly homes.

Another Design International

Pal Pang studied interior design in the UK, and returned to Hong Kong to launch his practice after graduation. Initially, he engaged mainly in retail and commercial design, but later expanded his scope to residential design as well and, in 2002, founded Another Design International. Pang’s work has received numerous accolades, including the honour award of the Design for Asia Awards in 2007, best interior design of the Asia-Pacific awards of the UK International Property Awards in 2008 and best interior design at Asia Pacific Property Awards in 2010. He is currently a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, member of the Chartered Society of Designers, British Design and Art Direction Association and a member of the Hong Kong Design Association committee.

Rosly Mok and Vanessa Chan both graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with first class honours, majoring in environmental design. They went on to join RMJM as landscape designers; Mok moved to SLHO & Associate to focus on interiors and architecture and is now currently working for Agence Ouvray, a design studio that provides spatial design services. Chan, meanwhile, is currently studying landscape architecture at the Edinburgh College of Art. Last year, in an exploration of the relationship of humans and their environment, the pair launched a study on ‘abandoned furniture’ on Hong Kong’s streets which sparked wide media interest.

Coldefy & Associates Architects Urban Planners

France-based architect and urban planner Thomas Coldefy made his name in this part of the world by winning the International Architectural Design Competition for the Hong Kong Design Institute, which also netted him the Prix Tour Eiffel in 2007. He has collaborated in the past with the likes of Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, SCAU (an architecture agency in Paris) and Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Coldefy recently established an office in Hong Kong, from where he intends to promote the concept of low-carbon design and living in the region.
